Personal Interests

Dr. Stern in addition to his professional endeavors in regards to children and families, he has an active household of thirteen children, half of whom are out of the home including two dentists and two entrepreneurial small businesspeople. For the last thirty years, Doctor Stern along with the children has been involved in multiple agricultural endeavors. In particular, he has raised and milked Jersey dairy cows twice daily for the entire time. Other farm animals of interest at the stern home are alpacas, dairy goats, chickens, and ducks. In fact, the medical office has always been located at the farm, where in the past families were able to see cows give birth as well as big farm combines harvest wheat and corn.

Biography

Dr. Stern is a graduate of the Keck School of Medicine (formally University of Southern California School of Medicine). He received his post-graduate education in pediatrics at USC and Einstein College of Medicine in New York. His fellowship in adolescent medicine was completed at Montefiore Hospital in New York.

Following his postgraduate education, he took a faculty position in adolescent medicine at USC in Los Angeles. Subsequently, he was recruited for faculty at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

He left his full-time faculty practice to become a primary care pediatrician in Highland, Maryland where he has been for the last three decades. He continues his participation on the clinical teaching faculty of Maryland as well as other area programs for doctors, physician assistants and nurse practitioners.

He has extensive experience in the management of acute and chronic pediatric and adolescent medical and emotional disorders.

Additionally, as chairman of the legislative committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics, he has been an active advocate for change in public policy to improve the well-being of children and families.
